Mazes of Fate

May 2010 New Games

Gameplay is really simple. It is a first person RPG in the roots of Wizadry and Dungeons and Dragons. You go to many different towns and meet many different and varied locales including a drunk. By choosing several options in the dialogue screens-you don't go up to characters and talk to them like you do in most RPGs, you can discover many different quests and such because each answer produces a different effect on how the game goes on. But you can still see your character on the town map and overworld screen in order to move around...

The real gameplay lies in the dungeons. When an enemy or enemies come up, you press A to bring up the battle menu where you can either Attack, use Magic, or use an Item. It's very simple and easy to use. Another option in dungeons is Interact which is done by the B button and is used to open treasure chests, pull levers, and etc...

The Start button brings up a menu where you can check on your Character Status and equip armor and weapons along with assigning skill points, use the Automap, view Questlog(which tracks your quests), Save game, rearrange the Settings, and Camp.

Story isn't anything big or groundbreaking.... Basically, humans have grown to become so proud in themselves along with being arrogant that the gods decided to wipe them out with some evil race of goatmen. It goes into more detail but it's not anything to crave over but then again it's not anything slapped together just to have a story.

Sound isn't too bad. The music fits the game for what it is. In the towns and such, it's a happy yet fantasy theme but when you're in the dungeons, it switches to dark and moody music which falls into place.

The sound effects are on the same par as the music is. It isn't anything to make you turn the volume down but it's also not anything to make you want to catch every little detail.

The graphics are very good for the game. On the 75% setting for the graphics which is located in the Settings menu, download free games for pc look vivid and colorful and I totally recommend you play the game on 75% brightness. From the bones located in the crypt to the blood that's left on the ground from killing an enemy to the detailed characters in the towns. Battle animations isn't anything special but they are still good for a handheld FPS RPG.
